Brazilian Hulk accepts Iranian Hulk's MMA challenge as war of words escalates
Romario dos Santos Alves has threated to tear Sajad Gharibi's head off when the two meet in the ring
Two hulking bodybuilders from opposite sides of the world are set to go head to head after agreeing to meet for an MMA bout that’s been dubbed the ‘Battle of the Giants’.
‘Brazilian Hulk’ Romario dos Santos Alves, 29, took to social media to take up his Iranian counterpart Sajad Gharibi’s challenge, vowing to “tear off” his head.
The 27-year-old Iranian Hulk has been waiting for an opponent to make his MMA debut after becoming an internet sensation due to his enormous size.
Accepting Gharibi’s offer, the Brazilian fighter said: “I will go up to 120kg and I send a message to you, the Iranian Hulk who is challenging me: I will go up to 120kg and you will go down to 120. I will tear off your head.”
Towering at 6’2”, Gharibi currently weighs in at a staggering 175kg, while the 5’8” Brazilian tips the scales at just 104kg.
Gharibi extended his challenge to Romario multiple times before being taken up on his offer of a fight.
In his most recent challenge, Gharibi taunted the Brazilian fighter on social media saying: “Be brave and invite me to fight instead of hiding behind your sponsors. I am ready to fight you, show me what you’ve got to say in the ring.”
Local media reports that Romario was a scrawny security guard who bulked up after ferociously hitting the gym less than a decade ago.
His new fitness regime along with muscle injections saw his biceps bulge to 25 inches within months.
It is also claimed that he almost lost an arm in 2013 after having a severe reaction to synthol oil injections.
While popular among bodybuilders looking to create the illusion of developed muscles, side effects of the enhancement oil can include pulmonary embolisms, nerve damage, infection, and oil-filled ulcers inside muscle tissue.
In the five years since his health scare, the Brazilian Hulk has undergone a full lifestyle change, opting for a healthier and safer training regime over injecting.
Powerlifter Gharibi hit headlines in 2016 after announcing plans to join the battle against Islamic State, although he failed to follow through on this.
He decided to pursue a career in combat fighting in 2017 after being encouraged by his fans but never managed to secure an opponent.
He extended challenges to dozens of potential opponents via his social media pages, including a challenge to British bodybuilder Martyn Ford, known as the ‘Scariest Man on the Planet’.
